I’ve been wanting to travel to Morocco for a long time. 3 years ago I had a trip planned that had to be cancelled on the very last minute. Since then I’ve been dreaming of warmer days under the sun of Morocco. And finally this December I had the opportunity to travel to Morocco for 10 days! Although it felt like a month, because we visited so many places.

10 days might sound like a lot, but believe me, it was not enough to visit all the places we wanted to see.

We started off with the bustling markets of Marrakesh and then discovered the UNESCO World Heritage of charming Essaouira. We watch the ocean unfold in Casablanca before soaking in the blue streets of Chefchaouen. We discovered the impressive imperial cities of Fes and visited the capital, Rabat. We finally enjoyed the sunset in the Saharan sand dunes.

10 day itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech
Arriving to Marrakesh. For the first day we arrived at the hotel did a check in and just went out for dinner.

Day 2: Marrakech to Essaouira
We woke up early in the morning and explored some of the key sites of bustling Marrakech like the Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs, Bahia Palace & Dar Si Said Museum. After this we got on our way to Essaouira. When arriving to this coastal town, we headed to the beach and took a stroll then headed to the Skala Port ramparts to watch the sunset.

Day 3: Essaouria and Casablanca
After spending the morning in Essaouria, we went on our way to Casablanca. We had lunch by the pier and then visited the Hasan II Mosque, one of the largest mosque in Africa. We then visited the United Nations Square, Anfa Residential Quarter and finished with a short visit to the medina.

Day 4: Rabat
We continued our journey along the coastline to Rabat, the capital of Morocco. Rabat is a beautiful city that blends ancient history with modern Moroccan culture. We had a guided tour through the imperial town, visiting the Kasbah that overlooks the Bouregreg River. We also visited the Royal Palace, Chellah Ruins and the impressive Mohammed V Mausoleum. After finishing this we headed to the magical Blue city of Chefchaouen.

Day 5: Chefchaouen
We woke up in Chefchaouen and had the entire day to explore the medina. All of the streets are really magical and you can just walk around and discover all the little streets, I’ll have to do a blogpost just for Chefchaouen, its a photographers dream!

Day 6: Fes
Our next destination is Fes, the cultural heart of Morocco and second largest city. Fes is known for its labyrinth of souks and leather tanneries. We first visited the Bab Bouloud Gate, then we continued our journey to the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss and headed on our way to the medina.
We visited the spice market, a pottery fabric and the famous tannery. After this we had lunch in a beautiful tiled restaurant.

Day 7: Fes and we headed to Merzouga!
We headed on our way to the Sahara Desert. We drove through Efran City in the High Atlas Mountains. The drive was really long but the panoramic views on our way were stunning, so it is really worth it!
We arrived to our camp site in the middle of the desert, just in time for our 1st camel ride to catch the sunset in the sand dunes.

Day 8: Merzouga
We woke up really early to catch up the sunrise. We had a delicious Moroccan breakfast and then we got ready for a 4×4 jeep safari. It was such a fun ride watching the golden landscapes and racing the other jeeps in the sand dunes.

Day 9 – 10: Marrakech
The last two days were left to explore Marrakech properly.

Stay tune because I will be creating another post with all my recommendations for Marrakech.
